Bas chaltey jaana hai

She turned around, only to see a figure disappearing down the path. She had always wanted some time alone but didn't realise how soon she would get it.
Although she had only walked a couple of steps away, her mind had travelled far back in time in the few moments that separated herself from the figure. Each and every memory was vivid, each and every wound still fresh.
Suddenly, her face was flooded with tears and a familiar pain pierced through her. It had returned to haunt her so often, that sometimes, she didn't even realise it was there.
A cool breeze stirred around her and she felt trapped; almost as if she were engulfed in flames.She hoped the winds would drift her thoughts away for a while; instead, it carried sadness that stuck to her. To forget was her destiny, to remember was her fate.
Looking up to the sky to seek solace in its depth, something unexpected happened.

It rained.
